Fatal insomnia, when the body Loses the ability to Sleep

Fatal insomnia, when the body Loses the ability to Sleep. Could you imagine being in a situation where you can't sleep every day or every night even though the body feels very tired. It afflicts about 100 people in the world, a disease called fatal insomnia.

The documentation of this disease is the famous first override Silvano, a 53-year-old man from Italy. In 1984 her mysteriously lost the ability to sleep and keep waking up even though the body shows various symptoms of fatigue.

Silvano checked by a team of researchers from the University of Bologna where his illness identified as fatal familial insomnia (FFF). The condition is genetic disability decline that is very rare.

Silvano finally died a few months later but he donated his brain for research. For many years researchers finally discovered that the disease is still closely related to CJD – Jakob disease (CJD) and mad cow disease.

The condition is triggered when proteins called prions in the body become wild and attacked the brain part of the thalamus that controls automatic body activity. Things like blood pressure, body temperature, heart rate, and the release of hormones all are regulated by the thalamus that when broken will occur.

In a healthy person, before going to sleep the body will automatically get ready by lowering blood pressure. But in people with FFF this is not the case and the body will continue to be active until the end of the ' give up '.

"If the sympathetic nervous system is not well balanced, of course you would have insomnia," said Pietro Cortelli, one of doctor who ever handles Silvano as cited from the BBC on Friday (22/1/2016).

So far not yet known for sure what therapy could cure someone of FFF. So far the world's scientists are still researching the roughly what things can be done to relieve the symptoms.
